NEW TRADERS COMING TO THE MARKET THIS AUTUMN
Keep an eye out this October, because we’re welcoming some new faces into the Brixton Village family.
MEET MECANTU — BRIXTON VILLAGE’S NEWEST JAMAICAN SEA MOSS BRAND
This weekend, we welcomed Mecantu to Brixton Village — a Jamaican sea moss brand selling everything from sun-dried sea moss and sea moss gel to their signature Jamaican jelly. Blend it into a smoothie, work it into your skincare, or stir it into something warm!
Mecantu means “I can too” in Jamaican Patois, and the name says a lot about what the brand stands for. Founder Kerron built Mecantu to honour what came before — family traditions and community connections. The sea moss itself is sourced straight from the hands that harvest it in Jamaica, so every batch carries a story. Find Kerron in store and get to know his products for yourself.

Piece of Velvet
For anyone with a sweet tooth, Piece of Velvet has opened their doors. Think mini cupcakes piled high with buttercream, indulgent tiered cake slices you won’t want to share, and birthday cakes made to order — the kind that make the whole counter smell like a celebration before you’ve even had a slice. Another reason to make the Village your first stop for a sweet treat in Brixton.

BARE LIFE DRAWING IS CALLING — STRIKE A POSE
This October, triple award-winning Bare Life Drawing lands in Market Row for a three-part series. This is life drawing with soul. Expect a bar collaboration running alongside each session, so you can sit back, relax, and make an evening of it.
The first session opens with a Black History Month special, bringing together life drawing, music, storytelling and representation. Photographer Tee Max is also back in Market Row, capturing the night’s energy and atmosphere as it happens. Grab a friend, have a bite to eat at one of our Market Row traders, then grab a drink, and get creative.

“WHAT IS MY BRIXTON?” MURAL
Market Row’s newest addition has just landed, and it’s hard to miss. The first in a new six-month rotating mural residency has gone up, created in collaboration with Caroline from CHINAKWE — an explosion of colour capturing Brixton’s soul and character.
“What Is My Brixton?” invites artists to use their creativity to define what Brixton means to them. This piece is an ode to the places that matter — the music radio that fuels the rhythm of our avenues, Brixton Station linking us to the rest of London, and the markets that celebrate Brixton’s diversity through independent traders, chefs, designers, creatives and more. Caroline’s style pulls it all together in one piece. And better yet, you can take a piece of the artwork home, with merch available to purchase at CHINAKWE.

REGULAR DEGULARS IN THE COURTYARD
Back by popular demand, Brixton Village Lates by the Handson Family returns every Saturday in October — six free, five-hour guest DJ sessions in the Courtyard. Friends of the Handson Family take over the decks each week, with music, drinks and Courtyard bites keeping the evening going until closing time.

LATE NIGHT SHOPPING AT THE ROW
Add a little jazz to your Thursday evening with Market Row’s new Late Night Shopping series. On the last Thursday of every month, our traders come together with the Handson Family for an evening of DJ sets, browsing, fashion and lifestyle pop-ups, exclusive merch and food.
It’s your chance to meet the creatives behind this corner of Market Row, including artist Caroline from CHINAKWE, fashion designer Zekaryas Solomon, visual activist Wayne Campbell of A Celebration of Demonstration, Rohan at Uptown Yardie, Kola Okusanya from ÀSE Boutique, Simone Ogunbunmi from Haus, and Malika Green and Paschelle Brown from All Roads. A moment to support Black traders and discover something different on your Thursday evening.

SUNDAYS IN MARKET ROW: THE FORTNIGHTLY BRIXTON MAKERS MARKET
If you haven’t caught one of our fortnightly Sunday Brixton Makers Markets yet, consider this your reminder. Every other weekend, Market Row fills up with 20+ independent makers, creatives, food traders, and small businesses. Find stalls of handmade jewellery next to quirky wall prints, homemade cookies, organic cocoa butter, vintage vinyl, and whatever else our makers have been working on. The perfect slow start to your Sunday, browsing, meeting, and supporting local independent businesses.

BLACK HISTORY CELEBRATIONS IN MARKET ROW
Black history and culture have always been a part of the market, and this Black History Month, our traders are celebrating it together. Join us in Market Row for an evening shaped by the stories, skills, and traditions of our Black traders with seminars and talks, live music sets, and beauty and hair styling workshops. Led by our community, for our community. A chance to learn, celebrate, and recognise the histories and cultures that have shaped this Village from the start.

HALLOWEEN AT PERGOLA BRIXTON: DRESS TO DISTRESS
The nights are drawing in, which means one thing — more time on the dancefloor. Pergola Brixton is doing Halloween properly, with two nights of fancy dress, low lights, and DJs who know how to hold a room. Dig out your spookiest outfit and come find them up top.
The Halloween Edit: R&B Friday
R&B classics, deep cuts, and modern gems, all given a serious Halloween twist. Expect a packed dancefloor and scary hours at Pergola Brixton as the night runs late.

It’s a big title, and it belongs to the traders, communities, and visitors who keep showing up and supporting our unique market.
For over a century, the avenues of Granville Arcade and Market Row have been part of the fabric of Brixton, shaping its identity alongside generations of people who’ve called this place home. Through it all, we’ve continued championing independent traders, food from every cuisine of the world, and a music scene that never quite switches off.
Brixton’s identity comes from the mix of people, ideas and cultures that make up this place — and we’re proud that this award recognises exactly that. It’s down to the traders, the graft, and a Village that works together.
