Foday Dumbaya, whose motto at Labrum is “designed by an immigrant” chose Brixton Village for his AW23 show at London Fashion Week. Inspired by the countless forms of communication used by migrants to stay in touch with loved ones, Labrum’s ‘From Greener Pastures’ pays homage to families divided by borders and oceans, united through correspondence.
Brixton Village breathes life into the collection with an immersive showcase in one of London’s most renowned community led locations. With a large migrant population from so many different countries, it was the perfect partner to display Labrum’s vision. Staged among a number of Brixton Village traders, including Esme’s, Kumasi Market and Ma Soda, the show straddled fashion, performance, poetry, music and dance with guests lining the avenues of the Grade II listed market to take in the show.
Diana Nabagereka, Brixton Village Manager, said “This highlights the stories and journeys of those who make Brixton what it is. And to have our vendors take part further encompasses the market’s identity rather than using it as a superficial backdrop”.
Brixton Village was proud to partner with Labrum for this incredible event and look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.
