A Brixton Landmark Re-Opens, a Birthday Party and an Open Mic: April Update
In case you missed it…here’s what happened in our Brixton Village community last month.
O2 Academy Re-Opened
The drums were beating, guitars tuned and something smelled like teen spirit on the stage of the O2 Academy Brixton last month!
On the 19th of April, we said a very big ‘welcome back’ to our friends around the corner at the O2 Academy with their very first gig of the season, a Nirvana UK tribute band.
After a year of closure, this iconic Brixton landmark has officially reopened to the public. The venue will welcome a variety of artists to their stage over the coming months including NoFX, Janelle Monáe, Arcade Fire, Azealia Banks, and Barry Can’t Swim.
If you’re planning on attending a gig at the O2 – make sure you pop by the Village for some pre-show dinner and drinks (we’re only a seven-minute walk away!).
Brixton Street Wear Launched Their Monthly Open Mic
They might be new to the Village, but Brixton Street Wear ain’t mucking around when it comes to bringing the energy and building their tribe.
The community hub has been host to a number of events since its opening, including the launch of their regular open mic nights in collaboration with Real Deal Open Mic.
On the last Tuesday of every month, join the community hub to witness raw talent and infectious vibes. Whether you’re here to spit bars or just soak in the sounds, this is guaranteed to become your favourite night of the month!
Round Table Books celebrated 5 years in the Village
Our beloved independent bookstore, Round Table Books, recently celebrated five years in the Village! That’s five years of spreading the voices of and promoting underrepresented authors in the publishing industry, and building a community of curious readers.
Co-Directors Meera and Aimee celebrated by hosting a birthday party in-store with some book-themed cocktails (thanks to neighbors Supercute Brixton), limited-edition tote bags, and special book bundles.
Here’s to a tale of endless chapters and countless adventures with Round Table Books! Cheers to many more years of inspiring stories and diverse voices echoing through the Village avenues.
